KC Rally
What is Rally ?
The Kennel Club (KC) Rally is a fun, team-based dog sport where handlers guide their dogs through a course of numbered signs, each indicating an obedience exercise (like sits, downs, turns, recalls) to perform in sequence, similar to an "obedience obstacle course," building teamwork, communication, and fun for all dogs and handlers. It's inclusive, allowing verbal praise, with increasing difficulty and levels, progressing from on-lead in lower levels to off-lead in advanced ones, focusing on a "brisk pace" and handler-dog connection rather than strict obedience perfection.
Key Aspects
-
Course Structure: A course of 10-15 signs (stations) is set by a judge, and the dog/handler team performs them sequentially.
-
Exercises: Signs direct the dog to perform basic obedience skills, such as sit-stays, downs, turns, and recalls, with more complex challenges like jumps and weaving in higher levels.
-
Communication: Handlers are encouraged to talk to and praise their dogs throughout the performance, fostering bonding.
-
Levels: Courses increase in difficulty, with levels starting simple (on-lead, basic commands) and progressing to more advanced tasks (off-lead, complex sequences).
-
Scoring: Teams start with a set score (e.g., 200 points) and lose points for errors like loose leads, extra commands, or incorrect positioning, emphasizing teamwork over strict precision.
-
Inclusivity: Suitable for most dogs and handlers, it's a great way to build on basic training and enjoy time with your pet.
